Editor / Camera Operator / Archival Researcher / Co-Producer / Across 30 hard-fought years, Neurosis have spearheaded a particularly intense, cathartic and spiritual brand of heavy music that has influenced everyone from Mastodon and Lamb of God to Chelsea Wolfe and Converge. In our new documentary “A Shadow Memory,” we dig deep into the origins, inspirations and resonances of the band, guided by the group’s singer-guitarist Scott Kelly. In part one of the two-part doc, he looks back on his discovery of punk rock, the formation of Neurosis, his catalytic introduction to fellow singer-guitarist Steve Von Till and the philosophical underpinnings of one of music’s most devoutly DIY and steadfastly uncompromising groups.
Editor / Camera Operator / Archival Researcher / Co-Producer / In the second and final part of our in-depth doc "A Shadow Memory," singer-guitarist Scott Kelly looks back on how Neurosis became Neurosis, one of the most revered underground metal bands of all time, from incorporating psychedelic visuals into their stage show to making their 1996 masterpiece Through Silver in Blood, a record born of personal dark times — loss, addiction and grief — that he still finds painful to revisit. Kelly and his bandmates could have said "Fuck this" many times, but instead they've forged ahead, leaning on each other as family, and on their fans, with whom they share an intense bond. “Life can be a real motherfucker," he says, "and if you reach a point where you can’t see straight anymore and you can’t figure shit out, don’t be too proud to seek help.”
Editor / Co-Director / Camera Operator / On November 5th, 2017, three forward-thinking artists who've made their names pushing the boundaries of "heavy music" — Justin Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu), Nothing and Dominick Fernow (Prurient) — joined forces for a one-off collaborative performance to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Fernow's record label Hospital Productions. In the first episode of our exclusive three-part documentary, we join the musicians in a Brooklyn practice space for a glimpse at their pre-show rehearsals, during which they reveal how the collaboration came about and the core musical "contradiction" that they all share.

After spending a day with the artists in their rehearsal space, we met up with them on November 5th at Warsaw in Brooklyn as they loaded in before the show. In episode two of our exclusive three-part documentary, see the musicians talk about their anxieties going into their first collaborative gig (which also happened to be the first time Fernow ever performed with a live band) and how they found comfort in Broadrick being the “chillest guy ever.”

In the final episode of our exclusive three-part documentary, the musicians discuss the DIY spirit shared by all three artists, and why Godflesh's revolutionary 1989 debut LP, Streetcleaner, is the "ultimate expression of human condition" and how its "regressive machine-driven music" is a creative touchstone for their collaboration.
